A Juice Affair

Juicing has started to make it’s way into mainstream America, it’s not just for the woo woo yoga people and health nuts anymore! Could this be the new healthy addiction?

Screen Shot 2015-02-06 at 10.53.14 AMWell, you definitely get a “high” from drinking this caffeine free nutrient-packed juice, which is filled with vitamins, minerals, enzymes, antioxidants and phytonutrients!

Juicing has been shown to help improve:

  • Immunity
  • Allergies
  • Chronic illness
  • Digestion
  • Weight loss
  • Sleep
  • Skin conditions
  • So how do you get your healthy high?

There is the good ole fashion method of making your own! I have a Huron slow masticating juicer that keeps the nutrients intact during the juicing process. Jules has the trusty Breville Ikon Multi-Speed juicer that she swears by.

There are also some great new options for store bought juice. This super-powered juice that I’m talking about is raw, freshly pressed juice that contains no preservatives or sugar.

It’s easy to get confused with all of the store bought juice options, so let me be clear- juicing doesn’t include juice that has been sitting on the shelves for months!  There are many juices disguised as “healthy” that will skyrocket your blood sugar making you feel hungover 30 minutes later.

Have you tried juicing yet? What’s your favorite veggie juice recipe? See one of our favorites below!

I like to juice ingredients like apples and celery and then high speed blend in my greens! That way I’m getting the most out of the nutrient dense greens, fiber and all. I even like to take the citrus zester and put the zest of the lime in the blender after I’ve juiced the lime. :)

I love to juice beets! I don’t care for them raw, but they are delicious when juiced. I typically add clementines, apple, pear, spinach, kale, cucumber, celery, beets, carrots, and sometimes ginger for a special treat. I also use a zester to add lemon juice to my recipe.

3 carrots, 1 pear, 1 kiwi, 2 celery stalks, 1 cuke, 1/3 pomegranate seeds only, small amounts mint, cilantro, lime and ginger. Unusual, but tasty.
