Happy 4th of July! It’s officially summer cookout season. We’re excited to break out the grill and celebrate outdoors with our friends and family.
For many of us, summer celebrations are synonymous with delicious food and family fun. There’s a powerful draw to over-indulge in heavy foods and drinks, but we’re all familiar with the pain of spending the next day feeling inflamed and hungover.
And that’s why our goal is always to create delicious healthy food so we don’t miss the “real” thing. We know that being prepared with healthy food options is a good place to start so we’ve got a handful of recipes for you this week perfect watch for your health-conscious BBQ.
We put together for you, our top 4th of July recipes, ones that we’ll be making this year. All these recipes can be found either right here on our blog, or in our cookbook, The Conscious Cleanse Cookbook. If you don’t already have a copy, you can snag a copy here.
So without further ado, here are some of our 4th of July favorites!
Hibiscus Tea Cooler: Beat the heat and get a healthy dose of vitamin C with this luscious blend of hydrating hibiscus tea and citrus! This cooling drink is the perfect refreshing beverage for your summer cookouts. It’s delicious both as a cocktail or an alcohol-free mocktail. Make a whole pitcher, trust us :) Jules is famous for her crowd-pleasing mocktails. She’ll be serving this up to friends and family this year and all summer long!
Not Your Grandma’s Three Bean Salad: This recipe is a colorful, tasty, and healthy choice to make for your next BBQ or even camping! It takes less than 30 minutes to toss together and pairs perfectly with grilled dishes. Plus, it’s packed with plant-based protein.
Mediterranean Summer Salad with Goat Cheese Feta: Nothing hits the spot like a refreshing salad for a hot summer cookout! This recipe falls under our 80:20 category because of the tomatoes and goat cheese, so if you’re cleansing leave those ingredients out. Tomatoes and feta are two of Jules’ favorite 80:20 foods. When her husband is grilling meat, she adds this salad to the table to feel like she’s part of the summer fun!
*Grilled Chicken with Tomato-Free Bbq Sauce (The Conscious Cleanse Cookbook, pg. 137): A cleanse-friendly way to get your BBQ fix! Our tomato-free sauce is also sugar-free and gives a deliciously smoky kick to this healthy spin on a grilled classic. This is on the menu in Jo’s house this year. Make extra tomato sauce and freeze for another cookout or use for our Bison Bolognese (on pg. 132 in the Conscious Cleanse Cookbook).
Grilled Veggie and Chicken Kabobs with Honey Thyme Mustard: A 4th of July cookout wouldn’t be the same without kabobs! Our healthy and easy version delivers, without all of the additives and refined sugar found in most marinades.
*Chocolate Chickpea Ice Cream (The Conscious Cleanse Cookbook, pg. 226): This might seem like an unlikely combo, but chocolate and chickpeas are the perfect match. This rich and creamy dairy-free ice cream will hit the spot with kids and parents alike! As an added bonus, it’s high in protein and fiber which can help regulate blood sugar.
*Peach Crumble Bars (The Conscious Cleanse Cookbook, pg. 202): These delicious bars are the perfect summer treat! They’re simple to whip up and free of dairy and gluten. You can also easily switch these up to please any crowd by replacing the peaches with any fresh fruit that’s in season.
Vanilla Custard Fruit Tart: This tart is a show-stopping centerpiece, and tastes so good you’d never believe it’s good for you! It’s dairy-free, gluten-free, and guilt-free – the perfect summertime dessert. Fun fact: Jo’s husband came up with this recipe when they were first dating to impress her :)
