Welcome and Green Smoothies!

Green SmoothiesWelcome to our new blog! We hope you will find the information and topics discussed here to be enlightening and inspiring.

Our mission is to bring you more and more ways to help you feel good in your body so you can live your very best life today!

In case you are new to us here at the Conscious Cleanse, we will kick things off with one of our most treasured and favorite topics – not to mention one of the most life force generating health secrets on the planet – Green Smoothies!

What is a green smoothie you ask? Simply stated, it’s a smoothie with as many heapings of dark leafy greens as you can pack into your blender.

A basic green smoothie starts with about 2 cups of water (or other healthful liquid of choice like coconut water or almond milk), a few pieces of fruit like a banana, a pear and/or some frozen berries, and a huge handful of spinach or romaine lettuce. Blend until smooth and creamy, pour into your favorite glass or mason jar, and enjoy!

As you become more adventurous with your green smoothies, you can use greens like cilantro, parsley, kale and even cucumbers in your creations. A tablespoon of a ripe avocado makes a for a creamy treat, while a generous sprinkling of cinnamon spices it right up (and it’s good for regulating blood sugar).

Green smoothies are a time to get creative.

Look in the fridge to see what’s available and blend. You may just be surprised at how yummy those beet greens are in your favorite fruit smoothie.

And in case you were wondering, dark leafy greens are at the top of the whole foods chain. They are chock full of vitamins, enzymes, minerals and trace minerals! They are low in calories (not that we’re counting calories, mind you!) and high in nutrients.

Did you know you can get more bio-available calcium from greens than from cow’s milk?

Rarely will you find a food with more fiber than greens. The insoluble fiber in greens actually promotes regular bowel movements, so you’re able to detoxify the system more efficiently and more regularity. Amen!

We also bow down to the green smoothie goddess because we know it can be a challenge to sit down and eat the quantity of greens found in one of these smoothies. When is last time you ate a huge plate of chard? Ahhh? Never? Kale, chard, spinach, collards, dandelion greens — it’s all game here. And green smoothies so darn tasty that even your kiddos will swallow them down and be asking for more.

Here is one of our newest and favorite of green smoothies. We hope you enjoy and will leave us a note in the comment section below. Share your favorite green smoothie with us too. Go wild and let us know about any new epiphanies or creations that you conjure up with your blender.

With love and green smoothies,

Is this for one serving? 1/3 cup of hemp seeds seems like a lot :) Also, will it work in a small magic bullet? Thanks.

Also, can you give me links to bloggers who are doing the cleanse, etc? I would LOVE to see that. Particularly since I’m underweight. Thanks.

    Hi Ally,

We say 1 quart is 1 serving, but that is a lot for some people in the beginning. I am not sure but I think the magic bullet is 20 oz, which would be smaller than the quart. :) You can use less water for starters. Also I like the creaminess of a lot of hemp seeds but it’s a personal thing. Feel free to make it your own. You can check our Facebook page for some of the blogger links too. Thanks for writing!
